About Billy
Afflicted with a malignant brain tumor in the spring of his senior year in high school, Billy valiantly battled the cancer through three years of treatment while in college. Realizing he was not likely to recover and achieve his dream of a professional career in musical theatre, Billy asked his mom to set up a scholarship in his name. He wanted to make it possible for students who had shown sincere dedication to their art to pursue their dreams in music and theatre and - seize the day!
The Foundation Mission
The Billy Misik Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization managed through Byline Bank in Lake Zurich, IL. This foundation provides scholarships for LZHS students pursuing a major in vocal or dramatic arts at a 4-year college/university, and supports performing arts activities in District 95 schools. All donations are tax deductible; 100% of donations go directly toward foundation activities. We are grateful for the kind donations that provide continued funding of these scholarships and allow us to support the performing arts in our district schools. Visit us at billymisikfoundation.org
Scholarship
The Billy Misik Scholarship for Vocal and Dramatic Arts was established in 2006 after his passing and has been awarded annually ever since. A total of 47 merit-based scholarships (average $2000 ea) have been awarded as of 2026.
Grants
Established in 2022, the program offers curricular and extracurricular enrichment grants. A total of 15 performing arts grants have been awarded since inception, including 6 during the 2025-26 school year.
